Ukrainians living abroad will soon be able to apply for passports and other documents without having to return home. The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing to open five new offices of the state-owned enterprise Dokument abroad, one of which will operate in Canada.
According to Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, similar centers are also planned in the United States, Great Britain, Moldova, and Belgium.
“Ukrainians who are temporarily living in these countries will be able to obtain the necessary documents locally — without returning to Ukraine. This is our support for those who remain part of the country, even when they are far from home,“ Klymenko emphasized.
📋 What services will the state-owned enterprise ”Document" provide abroad
In the new foreign offices, Ukrainians will be able to:
-
Apply for a biometric foreign passport;
-
Obtain or exchange a Ukrainian citizen ID card (for those who already had one);
-
Restore documents that have been lost or damaged;
-
Apply for documents for children born abroad;
-
Use related services — translations, photo services, notarized copies, etc.
💬 Why is this important
The opening of a Dokument office in Canada will make life much easier for Ukrainians overseas:
- There will be no need to fly to Ukraine to obtain or renew a passport.
- Consulates will be able to reduce the queues that currently stretch for months.
- Document processing will become faster, more convenient, and more accessible.
🌍 What this means for the Ukrainian community
Since 2022, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have settled in Canada. Many of them face difficulties when processing documents due to overloaded consular offices. The new Document center will help simplify these procedures, making them faster and more convenient, which is especially important for families with children and those who are actively working or studying.
🕓 When to expect the opening
The official launch date has not yet been announced. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirms that preparatory work is already underway, and in the near future, Ukrainians in Canada will be able to use the services of the state-owned enterprise “Document” — without having to return to Ukraine.
✅ This is another step towards ensuring that Ukrainians abroad remain in contact with their country, wherever they are.
