Alberta has extended the deadline for applying for the $100 payment

Alberta residents have been given more time to apply for the Alberta Energy Rebate—a one-time payment of 100 Canadian dollars. The provincial government announced that the application deadline has been extended from September 30 to October 31, 2026, so that more people can take advantage of the program.

According to Jason Nixon, Chair of the Treasury Board and Alberta’s Minister of Finance, the decision was made due to high interest in the program. As of the end of September, more than 1.45 million Albertans had already applied or received the payment, and over 97% of them had already received their funds.

Who Is Eligible for the Payment

The Alberta Energy Rebate program launched on July 1, 2026. It is designed to return to residents a portion of the province’s additional revenue generated by high global oil prices and to help cover everyday expenses.

Individuals are eligible for the payment if they meet the following conditions:

  • they were 18 years old as of July 1, 2026;
  • they are residents of Alberta;
  • they filed a tax return for 2025;
  • their total annual household income does not exceed 225,000 CAD.

For families with two adults, the total payment may amount to 200 CAD, and additional payments may be awarded for each adult family member living in the household who meets the program’s requirements.

Applying Has Become Easier

Along with the extension of the deadline, the government has updated the application process. Another option has been added to the existing methods of identity verification: using the Notice of Assessment for 2025. This should simplify the process for those who do not use online banking or are unable to complete other verification methods.

The payment does not affect social programs

The government also emphasized that the Alberta Energy Rebate is tax-free and does not affect eligibility for other provincial or federal payments. Specifically, it does not alter the amount of assistance received under the AISH, ADAP, Income Support, Alberta Seniors Benefit, or federal senior support programs.

Additional Support for Provincial Residents

In addition to extending the rebate program, a full exemption from the provincial fuel tax will also take effect again in Alberta starting October 1. This means drivers will save 13 cents on every liter of gasoline or diesel fuel through the end of the year. The government explains that these measures are part of a policy to return to residents a portion of the revenue the province has received due to high energy prices.

Those who have not yet applied for the Alberta Energy Rebate should do so by October 31, 2026, as the application period will close after that date.
