At the end of 2025, Alberta launched a new tool for “shopping locally” — the Made in Alberta app and the updated madeinalberta.co website, which help users quickly find food and beverages produced in the province. The launch was presented by the Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA) together with the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce ahead of the holiday season to simplify the search for local brands and make them more visible to shoppers.
How it works
The app's key feature is “find local by photo”: users can take a photo of a product or search by category/name, and the app will suggest similar alternatives made in Alberta. In addition, the platform supports catalog viewing and (upon account registration) can unlock discounts/coupons — this is also mentioned in the app description on Google Play.
What's on the site
The updated madeinalberta.co is not just a catalog: the “hub” contains news, recipes, producer profiles, and tools such as personalized shopping lists to make it easier for people to cook with local ingredients.
Who will find it useful
Newcomers: it is easier to get acquainted with local brands, find “your” products, and discover new points of sale.
Small producers: the app becomes an additional “showcase” without large marketing costs — this is also mentioned by entrepreneurs quoted by UkrNews.ca. UkrNews
Anyone who wants to support the local economy: the release emphasizes the role of the food & beverage sector for Alberta and the motivation to “choose local more often.” Edmonton Chamber of Commerce
