No longer the “51st state”? Trump has assured that he will not invade Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump appears to have abandoned plans to make Canada the 51st state of the United States. He has no intention of invading the country.

The statement by the American leader was reported by The Telegraph.

Trump gave an interview to Robert Hardman, a royal biographer, for his new book about Elizabeth II. Hardman urged the American leader to “leave Canada alone,” noting that encroaching on the country would “upset King Charles III,” who is set to visit the US in late April.

“I think Canadians have 200 years of history and this whole ‘O Canada’ thing [the title of Canada’s national anthem—ed.]. You can’t figure that out in three and a half years. I don’t think it’s going to happen! [referring to Canada joining the U.S.—ed.],” Trump said.

The American leader also wondered whether Canadians still recognize the king as their head of state.

“They have terrible politicians. They smile in my face and then say bad things behind my back,” Trump said.
