In November 2025, the Canadian labor market surprised experts once again. According to Statistics Canada, the country added 54,000 new jobs, with nearly 29,000 of them in one province alone — Alberta. This means that more than half of all employment growth in Canada for the month is concentrated here.
Official figures: how the labor market is changing
According to the November Labour Force Survey, employment in Alberta increased by 29,000 people, or 1.1% per month. This is the second significant increase in the last three months. On an annual basis, the number of people employed in the province increased by 105,000 (+4.2%).
Parallel to the growth in employment, the unemployment rate in Alberta fell to 6.5%, the lowest since March 2024. The official website of the Alberta government specifies that total employment stands at 2.64 million people, with a monthly increase of 28,700 jobs, which is virtually identical to Statistics Canada's estimate, just rounded differently.
What this means for Alberta's economy
The fact that one province accounted for more than half of all new jobs in Canada in a month points to several trends:
-
Strong recovery of the labor market in Alberta. After periods of instability associated with energy price fluctuations and general economic risks, Alberta is regaining its position as one of the most dynamic regions in the country.
-
Diversification of the economy. Although Alberta is traditionally associated with oil and gas, in recent years the government and business have been focusing on IT, construction, manufacturing, services, and logistics. It is the combination of the resource sector with new industries that makes the labor market more resilient.
-
Attractiveness to migrants. The provincial government is promoting the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, which is aimed at attracting skilled workers, particularly from abroad. Against the backdrop of rising employment, this looks particularly attractive to those planning to move to Canada.
