Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the First Lady have arrived in Canada: their first meetings are taking place in Calgary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Canada on an official visit. One of the main topics of the talks will be continued support for Ukraine, including strengthening the air defense system, providing assistance to the energy sector ahead of winter, and bolstering defense cooperation between the two countries.

The first meetings are taking place in Calgary, where the President of Ukraine is holding talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The parties are also expected to discuss long-term military and financial support for Ukraine, as well as further coordination of efforts with international partners.

Before the start of the visit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is currently one of the top priorities. Russia continues its massive attacks on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, so preparing for winter remains a key issue for the Ukrainian government.

Canada remains one of Ukraine’s closest partners. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Canada has provided Ukraine with extensive military, financial, humanitarian, and political support. According to official data, the total amount of Canadian aid has already exceeded 25.5 billion Canadian dollars, of which more than 8.5 billion is military aid.

It is expected that, following the talks, new support packages will be announced, including assistance in the areas of air defense, energy, and strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

The Ukrainian President’s visit to Canada also holds significant symbolic importance. The country is home to one of the largest Ukrainian diaspora communities in the world, which has actively supported Ukraine since the start of the war, organized humanitarian initiatives, raised funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and assisted Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes due to the war.

For the Ukrainian community in Canada, this visit is yet another confirmation of the strong partnership between the two countries and Canada’s readiness to continue supporting Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, independence, and security.
