WestJet launches four new domestic routes from Calgary and Edmonton

WestJet has announced the expansion of its domestic network for the 2026 summer season: three new direct flights from its Calgary (YYC) hub and another route between Edmonton (YEG) and Terrace (YXT). The company is positioning the changes as a step toward better east-west connectivity in Canada and more convenient connections through Calgary.

New flights: destinations, frequency, start date, and aircraft type

According to the release, the following seasonal destinations will appear in the summer schedule:

  • Calgary (YYC) — Sault Ste. Marie (YAM): twice a week, starting June 12, Boeing 737

  • Calgary (YYC) — North Bay (YYB): twice a week, starting June 19, Boeing 737

  • Calgary (YYC) — Campbell River (YBL): daily, starting May 15, Q400

  • Edmonton (YEG) — Terrace (YXT): twice weekly, starting May 19, Q400

WestJet emphasizes that strengthening connections with its Calgary hub should give passengers more options for connecting to further destinations within the carrier's network.

More frequencies on popular domestic corridors

In addition to the four new routes, the company has announced additional flights on select high-demand domestic routes between Eastern and Western Canada. In particular, domestic capacity at Halifax Stanfield is planned to be increased by almost 50% (through frequencies on a number of routes), and capacity on the Deer Lake–Calgary route is to be doubled.

Comments and motivation

In the release, the company links the expansion to supporting regional mobility, tourism, and economic activity. John Weatherill, WestJet's executive vice president and commercial director, notes that the new routes should give travelers more choice for travel within Canada and more convenient access to connections through the home hub in Alberta.
