We invite Ukrainians in Alberta to an important free online information session on workers’ rights, labor standards, and workplace protection. This event is organized in collaboration with the Government of Alberta Employment Standards Program.
Many Ukrainians in Alberta work in construction, cleaning, restaurants, delivery, warehouses, manufacturing, and other sectors where it is important to know your basic labor rights. Often, workers don’t know what to do if an employer delays pay, doesn’t pay for overtime, forces them to work in unsafe conditions, doesn’t explain documents before signing, or fires them without a valid reason.
During the information session, participants will learn how the Employment Standards system works in Alberta, what rights employees have, where to turn in difficult situations, and how to proceed if a conflict arises with an employer.
The session will cover:
- minimum wage;
- working hours and overtime;
- vacation and holiday pay;
- employee rights during illness or temporary disability;
- safe and proper working conditions;
- delayed or unpaid wages;
- wrongful termination;
- signing employment documents;
- filing complaints and available resources for workers in Alberta.
This event will be particularly helpful for newcomers, hourly workers, manual laborers, as well as anyone just starting to work in Alberta or wanting to better understand their rights.
