Meeting with Vitaly Portnikov in Calgary

The Ukrainian community in Calgary will have the opportunity to meet Vitaliy Portnikov—one of Ukraine’s most renowned journalists, columnists, and political commentators, a member of Ukrainian PEN, and a recipient of the 2023 Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. Throughout his long career, he has analyzed issues related to Ukrainian statehood, the war, international politics, Ukrainian-Russian relations, and geopolitical processes in Europe and around the world.

This evening is not just a lecture, but an open conversation with the community. Participants will have the opportunity to hear Vitaliy Portnikov’s analytical perspective on the key challenges facing Ukraine, learn more about the international context of current events, and ask their own questions.

Topics of the Event

The following topics will be discussed during the event:

  • Ukraine’s future and possible scenarios for the course of events;
  • the course of the war and prospects for achieving a just peace;
  • the role of the U.S., Canada, and European allies;
  • the importance of the Ukrainian diaspora in supporting Ukraine;
  • the future of the Ukrainian state after the war ends.

Charitable Purpose

The event also serves a charitable purpose. All proceeds from ticket sales and charitable donations will go toward supporting prosthetics and rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian soldiers who were wounded while defending Ukraine.
