The Oberig Theatre cordially invites you and your loved ones to a warm and heartfelt festive journey through Ukrainian winter holidays!
On December 20, 2025, at the St. Vladimir's Cathedral Cultural Centre (404 Meredith Rd NE Suite 1, Calgary, AB), a vibrant program awaits you, combining theatre, music, humour, folk traditions, and a family atmosphere.
During the holiday, you will be able to:
- Meet the legendary characters Pronya Prokopivna and Sverid Golokhvastov in funny skits where humor and recognizable characters will put you in a good mood.
- Take a peek into St. Nicholas' residence, where wonder, kindness, and sincere wishes reign.
- Watch two godparents preparing for Christmas with their funny dialogues, chores, and traditional pre-holiday bustle.
- Sing carols together with the GUP singing group and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Ukrainian carols, shchedrivkas, and Christmas melodies.
- Hear greetings from the symbol of the coming year – the Red Fire Horse, which will add a special flavor to the holiday.
- See the Ukrainian folk tale “The Turnip” in a modern way – a familiar childhood story in a new, witty, and relevant interpretation.
- Take part in fun contests, quizzes, and a New Year's auction, where laughter, interactivity, and pleasant surprises await you.
This holiday will help you experience the lively atmosphere of Ukrainian winter traditions—St. Andrew's Day, St. Nicholas Day, Christmas, and New Year's—where:
- ancient customs and rituals are combined with a modern presentation,
- folk songs and melodies create a real Christmas and New Year mood,
- children and adults feel like part of a big Ukrainian family.
