We invite you to the screening of the Ukrainian film “Mavka. The Real Myth” in Calgary.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Globe Cinema, organized by Film Hive & Ukraine Harmony.

Mavka: The True Myth is a new story in the Mavka universe, offering a more mystical and dramatic reinterpretation of a familiar image from Ukrainian mythology. The plot centers on Rusalkina Week: a special time when mavkas and mermaids emerge from a forest lake, which is a passage to the afterlife, to hunt humans. It is then that Mavka meets Lukyan, a biology student who has come to the forest on a scientific expedition. Instead of killing him, she gradually discovers love, compassion, and the beauty of the human world.

But their story unfolds against a backdrop of dark forces, jealousy, and the struggle between the human world and the otherworld. Mermaids try to separate the lovers, while Mavka's past and nature pull her back into the dark world of the lake. Ahead lies a test of feelings, a choice between love and doom, and a story about a second chance that can change destiny.

This screening will be a great opportunity to see modern Ukrainian fantasy on the big screen, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient legends, and support Ukrainian cinema in Calgary.
