On August 21, Globe Cinema in Calgary will host a screening of the Ukrainian film “The Red Rue Express”—a romantic comedy set in the “Trains” universe from FILM.UA and Prototype Production.
The film is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, the 56th anniversary of the first performance of the legendary song “Chervona Ruta,” and the 55th anniversary of the cult music film. It is a heartwarming story about travel, love, nostalgia, chance encounters, and the feeling of home that Ukrainians often find even far from Ukraine.
In the story, train conductor Mykola Ivanovych goes on vacation and travels aboard the “Chervona Ruta” train. During this journey, several romantic stories unfold: some find love at first sight, others try to preserve feelings they already have, and still others suddenly realize that love has been right there all along.
The song “Chervona Ruta” becomes the film’s central symbol—not just a musical motif, but the emotional foundation of the entire story. It unites the characters, generations, memories, and Ukrainian cultural heritage.
Starring Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Stanislav Boklan, Roman Lutskyi, and Kateryna Varchenko. The film also features cameo appearances by Ukrainian musicians associated with the “Chervona Ruta” festival.
The film will be shown in Ukrainian with English subtitles, so you can watch it with friends, family, or acquaintances who don’t speak Ukrainian.
